Gifted and Talented Education Program
The G.A.T.E. program is designed to provide opportunities for all identified students in grades 4-6. Students in these grades are clustered into classrooms with G.A.T.E. trained teachers who provide differentiated instruction with an emphasis on open-ended learning, problem solving, and critical thinking.Students are identified using pupil records, test data, questionnaires, and scores from criterion-referenced test. Testing is held in April for placement in the program the following year.
All identified students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities throughout the year. Student, parent and teacher input is utilized in developing these extracurricular activities. For example, art classes, PowerPoint instruction, marine studies and field trips are some of the activities organized in previous years.
